At Torphins we believe all our learning experiences should:
We know our learners well. We provide the right amount of challenge and support at the right time through differentiation in class and additional input from our ASL team where required. We have high expectations for all our learners in terms of effort, behaviour and quality of work. We support all learners to develop a growth mindset and use strategies to support them when things become tricky.
We build on learners’ interests and curiosity to provide engaging and inspiring lessons. We make use of our links with businesses, charities and partners in the community to explore real-life issues and challenges that are relevant for our learners. Our learners develop skills such as collaboration, leadership, curiosity and critical thinking that will support them both in school and in later life.
Children learn best when they feel safe and included. Positive relationships are at the heart of this. We expect all interactions between pupils, parents, visitors and staff and to be respectful and constructive.
Learning in our school is planned to include pupils of all abilities. We adapt our approaches and learning environments to ensure they are accessible to all.
We want to recognise pupils who have demonstrated our values, either in school or outside it. Day-to-day, pupils receive house points linked to this, but teachers are also asked to nominate one pupil from their class whose actions have exemplified one of our values for a Values Award. These are shared in our celebrations of success assemblies every fortnight.
